‘High Noon’ Plot

2 Robbers enter a bank to steal the money and the Cops catch them in action. However, one of the Robbers throw a money bag in the Cops’ face and escape. They then enter a costume store and change their clothing to a police outfit that is identical to the Cops. One of the Cops sees one of the Robbers and thinks they are their partner but then all of them gather in one area and the Cops are confused as they all look like each other and like the Robbers on the Wanted Poster so they can’t tell who is a friend or foe.

Report / Narration

My High Noon project is about two criminals on the loose and they try to rob a bank. While they are stealing the money in the bank, two Sheriffs catch them in action and tells them to stop. However, one of the robbers throws a bag of money at the Sheriffs’ faces and runs off with their partner in crime. As the criminals run away, they come across a costume store and change in to police uniforms that are identical to the ones the Cops are wearing. One of the Robbers meets up with a Sheriff and they get mistaken as their partner. Suddenly, they all end up in the same area with both Sheriffs thinking that this is their coworker. To trick the Sheriffs, the two robbers try to convince that they’re their real partner but this ends up with all of them pointing guns at each other. The two sheriffs get confused on who is a friend or a foe and can’t tell who are the real ones as they all look identical to each other and to the wanted criminals on the poster.

My inspiration for this animation comes from this image above, where two Spidermans see each other. I wanted to portray this kind of humour in my animation through having the characters all look the same and becoming confused after realising they all look the same although I’m not sure if the humour shows well in my story.

To model the Cops and Robbers characters, I created a low-polygon model using the scale and move tool as well as the extrude tool to create new body parts then finally, using the soften edges tool to make the model more smooth. I created the character textures using the UV editor to unwrap the polygon and using the unwrapping on Photoshop to create the outfits for the characters textures. Once finished, I import it into the character by assigning a new material to the polygon and uploading the file through lambert texture. After this, I used the create new joints tool to make a skeleton for the characters, and bind skin tool to attach the skeleton to the low polygon model. Lastly I used the paint skin weights to adjust the weight of the characters to its movement. These same tools were also used to create the objects. E.g. For the buildings, by using the multi-cut tool, I created wooden planks on the walls of the buildings.

Overall, creating the character models and textures were the most successful as I could understand the process of making it more clearly except for texturing the buildings, it was more difficult to show the wooden texture of the walls through the animation. On the other side, animating the characters with the objects along with moving the cameras for the scenes were the parts I found the hardest to do as sometimes the character and camera would not move the way I wanted it too and having difficulty to return it to its original form.
